Kendjam 2026 Season Fishing Report | Topwater Action and Shared Traditions Week 2 | July 11 - 17

The second week of the season brought six anglers to Kendjam, with five guests traveling from the United States and one from Canada.

The Iriri continued to clear throughout the week, creating increasingly favorable conditions for visual fishing. Water levels were slightly lower than usual for this point in the season, while sunny days brought temperatures ranging from 25°C to 33°C.

From the first sessions, the river delivered consistent action.

Peacock bass responded aggressively on the surface, producing explosive strikes that became one of the defining elements of the week. Watching these fish rise and attack in clear water brought speed, anticipation, and excitement to every presentation.

The dry fly fishing also stood out.

Rubber pacu were particularly active, with anglers landing strong numbers on dry flies. Their selective behavior demanded accurate casts, while each take offered another reminder of the technical variety found throughout the Iriri.

The group finished the week with 319 fish landed across several of Kendjam’s characteristic species. The largest catches included:

• Wolf Fish: 86 cm
• Bicuda: 63 cm
• Peacock Bass: 62 cm
• Rubber Pacu: 48 cm
• Silver Pacu: 38 cm

Beyond the fishing, the surrounding environment remained an essential part of each day. Colorful birds were present throughout the journey, while a rare tapir sighting along the riverbank offered the group a memorable glimpse of the wildlife that inhabits this region.

The week ended away from the fishing action, but with an experience just as meaningful.

Guests joined the Kayapó people for a warm celebration filled with stories, laughter, music, and friendship. It was a moment of genuine connection and a fitting conclusion to a week shaped by both the river and the people who have protected it for generations.

Clearer water, strong surface activity, technical dry fly fishing, and shared traditions made the second week of the season a complete Kendjam experience.

The Iriri continues to settle, and every day is revealing new possibilities for the weeks ahead.
